Monday.
When you work a Monday through Friday job, Mondays begin to represent everything that is wrong in your world. They troll through your life, ruining perfect weekends with evil glee.
For Hankyung, waking up to his alarm on Monday morning had always meant immediate depression, knowing he will be forced to endure yet another week of being bossed around and yelled at by Kim Heechul.
But when the alarm goes off this Monday morning, the depression washes over him for a completely different reason.
He is alone in his bed.
He sits bolt upright in bed, calling out Heechul’s name frantically. He jumps out of bed naked and runs down the hallway, looking everywhere for him. When he sees Heechul sitting at his kitchen table, he feels the room spin with relief. But Heechul’s face is downcast, and he is fully dressed, his hands folded on the table. He is not looking at Hankyung, and it’s immediately apparent that he has withdrawn again.
“I should have left ten minutes ago.” He says, his voice sounding hollow and odd. “But I couldn’t.”
Hankyung swallows hard, relieved that Heechul is still here, but afraid for what lies ahead.
“Heechul…” He begins, but Heechul looks up quickly, a strange and terribly wrong smile on his face.
“It’s all right. We have to go to work now. I really should be there now actually.” He stands, looking at Hankyung awkwardly. “I’ll see you there. Don’t be late and all that.” He says, backing up a step, his bag already in his hands. Hankyung feels it like a chasm is opening up between them.
“Wait….don’t….” Hankyung whispers, wishing he sounded less afraid.
Heechul backs up another step. “It’s Monday. We knew this was coming, Hankyung.”
“Then why didn’t you leave? Why are you still here?” Hankyung steps forward, forgetting that he is stark naked and Heechul is fully dressed in his suit and tie.
Heechul closes his eyes and inhales deeply. Slowly his chin raises in defiance and he opens his eyes again to look at him. Hankyung can see the old, bitter Kim Heechul once more, and it literally hurts. His Heechul has just been locked away somewhere, and Hankyung is desperate to get him back before he disappears completely.
“I’m going now, before we make even more of a mess of this situation.” Heechul says, and a painful lump lodges in Hankyung’s throat. Heechul looks away again, and Hankyung suddenly understands that this is just as painful for him as it is for Heechul.
Oddly, this gives him hope.
“Look me in the eye and tell me you’re leaving, and that you never want us to do this again, and that you only want to be my boss and nothing else.” Hankyung says, his heart slamming in his chest. “I swear, if you can look me in the eye and tell me that, I’ll let you walk out that door without another word.”
Seconds pass in silence, and Hankyung sees Heechul’s eyes close once more, slowly. He doesn’t look at Hankyung or speak. When he cannot take it another second, he moves closer and touches Heechul’s face with his hand.
“We can do this together, Chul-ah.” He says softly, and Heechul’s mask begins to crack, his adam’s apple bobbing as he swallows hard. “We can do this. I know we can. We just have to be careful.”
“Fuck, why do I always give in to you?” Heechul’s voice wavers. Hankyung feels his chest loosen in relief again. He pulls Heechul in against him and kisses his ear.
“Sit down. I’m going to make us some breakfast, and then we’re going to go to work.”
Heechul sighs again and nods, and Hankyung steps back. He sits Heechul at the table and whips up some rice and noodles with egg, and they eat breakfast together. Heechul is still withdrawn, but at least he’s there.
When breakfast is finished, Heechul leaves while Hankyung goes to get ready, stating that he wants to get some things ready before the Monday morning rush. Hankyung kisses him, and although it’s hesitant, Heechul kisses him back.
On his way to work, Hankyung checks his cell phone that has been neglected for two days. He has seven text messages, all from his co workers wanting to know how the weekend went. Hankyung cringes, knowing that he has to talk to every single one of them and swear them to secrecy about this bet.
He arrives exactly on time and sits down at his desk. He turns on his computer and the moment it’s up, the IM’s begin.
cho.k@mediaenterprises.com – Hankyung! You never answered my texts, you jerk. How’d it go?
lee.d10@mediaenterprises.com – There’s our man! DID YOU SUCCEED?
kim.j2@mediaenterprises.com – He hasn’t come out of his office since he got here, hyung. Can’t tell if he’s pissed or not. How did your weekend go? Don’t hold back, tell us!
Hankyung sighs as each window blinks on his screen. He pulls up a blank IM and addresses it to all of them that were at the bar on Friday night.
han.g@mediaenterprises.com TO: Lee Sungmin, Cho Kyuhyun, Lee Hyukjae, Lee Donghae, Kim Jongwoon, Kim Ryeowook, and Shin Donghee:
I am not saying a word. And I don’t want any of you to speak about this bet thing ever again. NEVER. If you do I’ll hunt you down and kill you with my stapler.
Love,
Hankyung
As expected, a bunch of hollering and demanding IM’s immediately spams his monitor, but Hankyung ignores them, choosing instead to actually focus on work. Mondays are always crazy from everything that accumulates over the weekend, and they have more than enough to do to keep them busy. Eventually, the IM’s stop, and only Jongwoon continues to prod him for more information.
Things begin to settle back into a normal routine, and as the morning progresses, the knot of tension in his stomach begins to relax. It is nearly ten thirty when Heechul’s office door opens and he emerges like a lion striding out of it’s den.
Everyone in the room pauses what they are doing to look up at him with bated breath. Silence descends like a cloud as they wait for him to say or do something. Hankyung tenses, trying not to look at him and yet having no other choice.
“Everyone in the conference room. Five minutes.” Heechul says loudly and clearly. His eyes only flicker over Hankyung as he scans the room. And then a word that none of them (save Hankyung) have ever heard from Kim Heechul comes out of his mouth.
”Please."
Heechul turns and walks down the hallway, disappearing through the door, leaving them all in stunned silence. The second he is out of earshot, the whole room explodes in chatter. People jump out of their chairs and race over to Hankyung’s desk like it is a magnet drawing them in.
“Holy SHIT!” Hyukjae yells excitedly. “Did you hear that? He said PLEASE!”
“Hot damn, Chinaman. I think you really pulled it off!” Kyuhyun says, crossing his arms and looking at Hankyung with newfound respect.
“I’ve never heard him say that word in my life and I’ve been working here four years!” Sungmin exclaims, his face beaming in joy. “Hankyung you’re amazing!”
Hankyung wants to facepalm at their reactions. “Nooo!” He tries to yell over the din of voices all jabbering excitedly. “Just because he said please doesn’t mean--”
“Oh quit being so modest.” Donghae claps him on the back, and then they are walking away towards the conference room, all whispering to themselves at what this could mean.
“Why does no one ever listen to me?” He mutters to himself. He gets up and follows the rest of them into the conference room. It takes all his concentration not to remember that only yesterday, he and Heechul had done delicious and sinful things to each other on that table.
He sits down to wait, trying to ignore the winks in his direction from the others. Heechul enters the room, holding a rather large tray of pastries. He sets it in the middle of the table and steps back, watching each of them as they gape at him in shock.
“What, you don’t want them?” Heechul frowns.
The reaction is immediate. They practically kill themselves to get at the pastries, and the whole tray is reduced to glazed crumbs in only seconds. Hankyung doesn’t take one, because his stomach is churning and he knows adding a major sugar rush to his system would be a bad thing indeed.
Heechul takes a breath once they’ve all settled back into their chairs. He hands out each of them a stapled packet of papers. When Hankyung gets his, he glances through it to see that it’s a bunch of charts and graphs. He looks at Heechul in confusion (the same as the rest of them) but Heechul is purposefully avoiding his gaze. For once, Hankyung thinks this may be a good thing.
“I wanted to have this meeting to update you on where we are as a company, and what your role in it is, and what our goals are for the year. I know you saw this same update at the yearly company meeting, but we all know those are boring as hell and no one pays any attention anyway, because it’s too much to comprehend.” He says, looking at each of them as they look at the packet. “But this meeting is to show you the specifics - the nitty gritty of how OUR department affects the outcomes of the whole company. I’m doing this because, well….” He pauses here, and Hankyung can see Heechul’s vein twitch in his temple. “Frankly, we’re not meeting our goals, and if we don’t meet them again this quarter, there are going to be serious repercussions. Like layoffs.”
There is a hiss of surprise and fear in the room, and Hankyung just watches Heechul in amazement. He is doing just as Hankyung suggested, and from the looks of it, he took a long time doing it too. The packet he’s holding in his hands must have taken hours to create. A newfound appreciation for Heechul washes over him, and he feels pride and love for this man he once loathed.
“Obviously, no one wants to lose their job, right?” Heechul asks, and they all nod wordlessly.
“And no one will IF we start working together as a team to do this shit. I’m trying something new here, if you can’t tell.” He says with a tiny smirk. Kyuhyun chuckles a little as well, but Heechul continues on. “I don’t want to lose my job and I sure as hell know you don’t want to. So look at page 2 and I’ll show you why we need to pick up the pace around here.”
Heechul talks for nearly a half an hour, detailing in quick, easy to understand ways about what they all need to do. Hankyung is practically bursting with pride by the time the meeting is done, and Heechul even smiles when he’s finished. Needless to say, the rest of them are stunned at Heechul’s new approach, but willing to do what needs to be done to keep their jobs.
Hankyung badly wants to stay and kiss Heechul until he’s breathless, but he must settle for giving him a smile before walking past him to go back to his desk. As he’s walking past, he hears Heechul’s voice.
“Ryeowook-ah, can you stay for a minute?”
Hankyung turns around just in time to see the look of abject terror on Wook’s face just before the conference room door closes, shutting him out and them in. If he didn’t know what exactly was happening, he’d be afraid that Wook was getting fired. He turns around to see Jongwoon looking equally as afraid, and puts his hand on the elder’s shoulder.
“It’s okay. He’s going to be fine. Don’t worry.” Hankyung says reassuringly. Jongwoon relaxes and gives Hankyung a grateful look.
“You’re amazing.” He says. “I don’t know what you did to him, but keep doing it, okay?”
Hankyung cannot help the grin that spreads across his face. “No problem.” He answers, feeling like he’s laughing inside his mind all the way back to his desk.
~~
Hankyung sees Ryeowook and Heechul emerge from the conference room five minutes later, and there is a look of fierce determination in Wook’s eyes. Heechul glances in Hankyung’s direction, and for one fleeting moment they share a look of understanding. Hankyung knows that Heechul has just given Wook those lettered codes they found, and that hopefully soon the mystery will be solved. Heechul vanishes into his office once more, leaving the rest of them to continue working.
It’s after lunch when Hankyung’s cell phone begins to vibrate in his pocket. Frowning, he pulls it out and looks at the screen. It’s a text from Heechul. He opens it to read it, feeling another smile growing on his face.
~Supply closet, 5 minutes~ is all the text says, but it holds more promise than simple words.
Hankyung gets up three minutes later and stretches, then walks amiably down the hallway towards the loo. But instead of walking into the bathroom, he bypasses it and quietly opens the supply closet door. He steps inside, immediately smelling cleaning supplies. There is a dim light bulb above his head, but it doesn’t give off much light. He presses himself back against the metal racking, waiting.
Seconds later, the door opens just enough to let Heechul slip inside and close the door again. The second he does, Hankyung reaches out and grabs him, wrapping his arms around Heechul’s waist and flipping the lock on the door.
Heechul hums and presses himself against Hankyung, all heat and pent up sexual frustration. The kiss is hot and wet and he loves it. Hankyung gasps as Heechul’s fingers slide between skin and fabric, pushing Hankyung’s pants down until they’re around his ankles. Somewhere in the back of his head he’s screaming they could get caught, but it’s too good and too hot and he loses control as Heechul’s fingers wrap around him, stroking him until he’s panting and shuddering.
“Fuck…Heechul…” Hankyung moans, and Heechul covers his mouth with a kiss.
“Shh…” Heechul breathes as he strokes him, his eyes bright and wild in the dim light of the closet. Hankyung’s eyes begin to roll back in his head and he knows he’s lost the game when Heechul’s wrist flicks unmercifully. Hankyung barely manages to bite back a cry as he comes, gripping the metal racking with his hands to hold himself upright.
He can hear Heechul purring in satisfaction as he kisses him, and Hankyung feels like his eyes are permanently crossed from the force of his orgasm.
“You’re evil.” He whispers. Heechul chuckles, but the laugh gets caught in his throat when Hankyung drops to his knees and quickly undoes Heechul’s pants.
“Ohhhhh…ff…” Heechul hisses and grips Hankyung’s hair as his mouth takes him all the way in without warning.
If he didn’t have Heechul’s cock in his mouth, Hankyung would smirk at that reaction. Instead he focuses on giving it all back, and a few minutes later, Heechul stuffs his knuckles in his mouth to stifle the cry as he comes.
Hankyung licks his lips and pulls Heechul’s pants back up, zipping and re-buttoning them before standing and doing the same to his own pants. He presses a kiss to the corner of Heechul’s mouth as the he looks at Hankyung dazedly.
“I’m proud of you.” Hankyung murmurs softly. Heechul smiles, his fingers trailing along Hankyung’s cheek.
“You were right. The ‘honey’ approach worked. Thank you.”
The gesture is a simple one, the words are soft and kind, and they hit Hankyung’s heart like a bullet. He swallows, looking at Heechul in the dim light of the supply closet. The words form on the tip of his tongue, waiting to be spilled out and his feelings laid bare.
“We should get back before someone notices.” Heechul says, leaning in to kiss Hankyung quickly, forcing the words back as Heechul unlocks the door. Hankyung wants to stop him, pull him back and say it, but the moment is gone, and this is no place to confess your love to someone.
Heechul pushes the door open and steps out. Hankyung follows behind him, his eyes scanning the hallway to make sure no one is there.
But it’s too late.
Someone IS there.
Heechul freezes, and Hankyung pauses behind him as he stares at the man in front of them. Hankyung recognizes him immediately, and his stomach does a spiraling, dizzying crash into his toes as he sees Kim Youngwoon standing there, his arms crossed over his broad chest, one eyebrow raised at them.
“Well hello.” He says smugly. “Won’t Park Jungsu just love this.”
